What's EndNote?
EndNote is referencing software. You can use it to create a database of references from your readings.
EndNote interacts with word processing programs like Word and lets you insert your references into a Word document and automatically format them correctly in your chosen reference style.
For more information see the Library’s EndNote Guide.
Should I be using EndNote?
To use EndNote successfully you need to invest some time in learning to use the program.
Unless your course involves a significant amount of literature searching you may find it more efficient to create your references manually. If you're unsure about whether to use EndNote speak to a Librarian in your subject library.
Using EndNote with APA style referencing
The EndNote program comes with many citation or 'output' styles.
The APA style which is included in the EndNote program doesn't record all the necessary information for online references so the UWA Library, after consulting UWA Faculties, has created an amended style which you can download from the Library's EndNote Styles page.
When you download a style make sure you save it in the Styles folder of your EndNote program.
Please be aware that you should always check references imported from EndNote into your Word documents. Some manual editing may be necessary if you directly export references from a database. For example you may have to manually cut and paste DOIs or URLs or add retrieval statements as below into the correct fields of your EndNote reference.
