This guide explains the limits which apply to how much of a work can be copied under Part VA and VB of the Australian Copyright Act for the purposes of teaching and learning. Its purpose is to assist teaching staff prepare course materials for their units

How much can I copy?

There are no limits on the type of material that can be copied under Part VA (i.e. advertising, documentaries, episodic dramas, feature length movies etc) and you can copy all or part of the material.

 

How many copies can I make?

You are entitled to make as many duplicate copies as needed of any work you are copying under Part VA. Each copy you make, including the first, must be clearly labeled as follows: 

Made for the University of Western Australia under Part VA
of the Copyright Act 1968.

Date this copy was made (if different):

 

 

What AV works am I not allowed to copy?

Part VA does not give you permission to copy from pre-recorded, commercially released material, for example movies on DVD and VHS.

It is sometimes possible to play purchased and rented AV material in class. See the Legal Services Office Web site or contact the Copyright Office for more information.
