How many copies can I make?

You are entitled to make as many duplicate copies as needed of any work you are copying within the Part VB guidelines.

What can I communicate to students?

What can I communicate to students?

Generally, you may communicate to students all that you copy. However there are a couple of important caveats.

Books, dramatic works or sheet music

Only one part from a work can be available online across the entire University. Even though you are allowed to make a copy of the work you may not be allowed to publish it online if another part from the same work is already online (even if the sum of the parts are less than 10% or one chapter).

Insubstantial portions

If you put an insubstantial portion online you must take it down and wait 14 days before putting a second insubstantial portion from the same work online.

Warning notice

Almost all material copied for the teaching of students and placed online or distributed via other electronic means (email, CD, or DVD) must have a specific warning notice attached to it in such a way that the viewer cannot avoid seeing the notice every time they access the material.

If you are sending the material as an email attachment it’s preferred that you embed the warning notice within each file. Alternatively, make sure the text of the warning notice is prominently displayed within the body of the email. Material distributed by CD should have the notice embedded in the material or if that is not possible, some kind of label on the CD itself.

Insubstantial portions of work do not require the display of the warning notice.

Access

Material placed online must be made available only to valid UWA staff members or students.

Course Materials Online

Scanned book chapters and journal articles should be made available online via the Library's Course Materials Online service.
